Local Radio Network (LRN) Partners With TfM

July 2017

The new alliance of community and local commercial radio stations, the Local Radio Network (LRN) has struck a deal with travel news provider Travel for Media (TfM) to supply its network with up-to-the-minute traffic information.

TfM is offering its dashboard of public and private road source data, as well as live public transport information and embedded Tweets to LRN’s expanding network of stations, currently numbering around 70. The service also includes a feed of data for websites, while traffic information app services are under development.

The service is offered to radio stations for free in return for brand credits within bulletins. Stations do not need to be in RAJAR to receive the service and they do not need to hand over any valuable premium solus advertising spots beside reports.

“The Local Radio Network is all about providing great content opportunities to smaller stations,” explains LRN’s John Dash. “Working with TfM is a natural addition to the services that myself and my business partner Dave Stankler offer and helps locally- focussed stations provide vital local information without having to hand over airtime or dig into their limited budgets.”

“I’m delighted to be partnering with John and the team at LRN,” added Paul Hutton, Operations Director of TfM. “They have built up an impressive list of clients and it allows my co-owner Nick Simmons and me to expand our client list quickly. John was my first Programme Director when I presented on the old Red Dragon FM back in the 90s so it’s also exciting to be working with him again.”

Travel for Media already supplies traffic information to Radioplayer’s innovative in-car hybrid radio solution. Stations outside the LRN network are also eligible to receive a TfM service and the company is expecting to announce further partnerships in the near future.

The Local Radio Network provides a set of programming and revenue opportunities for stations outside the main groups and welcomes applications from other stations interested in joining.
